Canine Coaching

Training At The Lodge

At the Lodge, we believe that training is one of the best ways to strengthen your bond with your dog. Some dogs, especially puppies, need guidance to learn the skills and control they need to be happy and safe in your family and community. Inability to successfully interact with people and other dogs leads to frustration, worry, and sometimes safety issues.

Introducing: The Academy

The Green Beagle Lodge Academy offers versatile training programs created to help owners recognize the meaning behind their dog’s behavior and to better understand their needs, thoughts, and desires. Working together with one of our expert trainers, you can learn how to develop skills with your dog and strengthen your relationship. This ultimately leads to a better understanding of your dog and builds the foundation of obedience and canine good citizenship.

Training hinges upon confidence, persistence, and clear communication. Our Academy will help you, as your dog’s guardian, to shape their behavior and bring out the best in them. A well-trained dog has fewer limitations when they learn how to be more trustworthy around children, strangers, other dogs, and personal property.

With flexibility in mind, we offer four different types of training:

Group classes allow our expert trainers to work with you and your dog in a group setting over 6 weekly 1 hour sessions. You will work through a set program that will be tailored to fit your specific dogs needs and level of obedience. There will also be time to troubleshoot any specific problems that you would like to explore.

Group class is also beneficial for many dogs because of the social contact and exposure they get to outside distractions.

Private training can take place at either the Lodge, your home, or a public space and can be scheduled for daytime or evenings. Private training is especially beneficial if your dog has specific issues with certain places, people, or objects.

Private classes may be necessary if your dog is too fearful or aggressive for group classes or if your schedule is too inconsistent to meet every week for 6 weeks.

1 Hour Session: $125.00

Daycare training allows our expert trainers to work individually with your dog while they are at the Lodge for boarding or daycare. This option allows our staff to do most of the work training your dog.

We highly recommend coupling this training with at least one Private Training lesson to ensure sure you understand how to support your dog’s new manners in the home, while walking, and in public spaces. Consistency is the key to successful dog behavior change and we want to ensure you are supported in improving your dog's life and happiness.

Our Board & Train program is an intensive 2 week program designed to help cement the best behaviors you wish to see in your dog. Your dog will stay in the comfort of our Lodge each day while learning to work through distractions including other dogs in a controlled environment. We also offer shorter or extended boarding programs to fit your availability and budget.

Every Board & Train starts with a conversation with our expert trainers to ensure this program is the best fit for you and your dog. Please reach out to them at any time for more details or scheduling.

Socialization
Training
Activity
Responsibility

Class size: Up to 6

Requirements:

– S.T.A.R. Puppy class participants should be 9-20 weeks or under 15 pounds at the start of class and must be current on age-appropriate vaccinations. Attendance is required in all 6 classes in order to earn the S.T.A.R. certification. Students may schedule one make up class if necessary.

During our S.T.A.R. Puppy Obedience course we will be teaching and practicing the following:

• Basic Commands: Settle, Sit, Down, Stay, Wait, Leave It, Drop It, Place, etc.

• Planning for Future Training

Our Puppy classes are the first step to raising a well-behaved furry family member! Puppies are taught basic obedience commands in a course geared towards their limited attention span. Focus will be on engaging your puppy in learning and building your relationship.
This course is very dependent on the humans who live and interact with the puppy on a regular basis, so classes are for your two-legged family members as well.

Class size: Up to 6

Requirements:
– Puppy class participants should be 4 months to 10 months old at the start of class and must be current on age-appropriate vaccinations.
– All attending puppies must have a negative fecal exam within the last 6 - 12 months (Your vet's preference).

During our Puppy Beginner Obedience course we will be teaching and practicing the following:
• Basic Commands: Settle, Sit, Down, Stay, Wait, Leave It, Drop It, Place, etc.
• Proper Greetings & Manners
• Coming When Called
• Loose Leash Walking
• Importance of Grooming
• Advice On Future Training

Our Beginner Obedience class is for the growing puppy who has completed a puppy class, for the dog that is starting out with no prior training experience, or for the dog who needs a refresher course. This class introduces owners to the foundations of dog training and communication with their dog. Through each lesson we will continue to build your relationship with your dog.

Beginner Obedience is very dependent on the humans who live and interact with their dog on a regular basis, so the learning in this level is just as much for us two-legged family members as it is for our dogs. This class is for anyone who would like a well-behaved companion as well as those who may want to participate in dog sports in the future.

Class size:
Up to 6

Requirements:

– Dog participants should be at least 9 months of age and must be current on their Rabies, Bordetella, Distemper-Parvo vaccinations, and have a current negative fecal exam.

During our Basic Beginner Obedience course, we will be teaching and practicing the following:

• Basic Commands: Sit, Down, Stay, Leave It, Drop It, Place, etc.
• Proper Greetings & Manners
• Coming When Called
• Loose Leash Walking & Heeling
• Importance of Grooming
• Advice On Future Training

Intermediate Companion Obedience is for the dog that is experienced with prior training classes and for the pet owner who wants to strengthen the bond with their dog through a variety of distractions. This class builds on the foundation of Beginner Basic Obedience while testing the dog’s ability to focus through challenges and distractions.

Class size:
Up to 6

Requirements:

– Graduation from Basic Beginner Obedience, or instructor’s permission is required for enrollment. Dogs must have a reliable recall and a solid sit stay for a duration of at least 20 seconds.

During our Intermediate Companion Obedience course, we will be teaching and practicing the following:

• Fine tuning and expanding on commands learned in Basic Beginner Obedience
• Increasing difficulty with distractions, distance and duration (ie longer stays, further away)
• Beginning off leash work including recalls, heeling, signal cues, etc.
• The fundamentals of how to teach and build on any command
• Problem solving: Tailored training toward specific areas you wish to improve with your dog

In this course, we will practice and prepare you and your dog for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. This test will be given on the 6th week of class. The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test is an AKC title your dog can earn by completing the 10 required test items successfully. This class is for the dog that is experienced with prior training classes and for the pet owner who would like to earn the CGC distinction for their dog. The CGC title is an important precursor to dogs becoming therapy dogs, service dogs, or just a well behaved family member. Students can also work towards earning the CGC Advanced, CGC Urban, or AKC Trick titles for their dog.

Class size: Up to 6

Requirements:

– Intermediate Companion Obedience or equivalent or instructor’s permission is required for enrollment.
– To earn the CGC title your dog will need to be registered with the AKC but any dog, even mixed breeds, can be registered and we can help you with that process if needed.
