Happy Howl-O-Ween! October Update

Happy Howl-O-Ween! October Update

It does not have to be a holiday to ask for a treat, so make sure that you carve out some good times here at the Lodge! We hope that the unpredictable weather has been kind to you all, and we are looking forward to these calmer autumn days just as much as you and your pets. As we enter this season of festivities, we want to share a few updates and reminders for the months ahead.

Holiday Season

The Lodge is preparing for all our friends’ holiday visits during this busy season, but we wanted to remind everyone about a couple of our policies.  For all major holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, we require a non-refundable boarding deposit of two nights’ stay per pet per holiday. If you cancel your boarding reservation prior to 14 days before the original check-in date, your boarding deposit will be held on your GBL account for one year and can be used for a future service. If you cancel within 14 days of the original check-in date, your deposit will be forfeited. If you shorten your holiday stay by more than two nights or so you are no longer boarding over the holiday, you forfeit your deposit.

Upcoming Events

You know you’ve got the cutest pup-kin in the patch, so why not share that with your Lodge family? We are excited to announce our 2022 Halloween Costume Contest, which will be hosted once again through our social media pages! Official contest guidelines and prizes will be posted on Sunday, October 16th, so be sure to keep an eye out for the announcement!

The event will feature the sale of local artwork, custom poetry by Endlesswill (Hillsborough’s 2016-2018 Poet Laureate), adoptable pets, live music by The Mood Enhancers, a cash bar by Haw River Ales, and so much more!

Update to Our Fecal Test Policy

One of our four core values here at the Lodge, and arguably the most important, is safety for our canine guests and staff. After much thought and careful consideration, we have decided that, while Eimeria is non-parasitic in dogs, we cannot allow any pets with a fecal exam result that is positive for Eimeria to schedule or receive services.

While Eimeria, a parasite related to Coccidia, is non-parasitic in dogs, it can pass via coprophagia (eating feces) to canines and other small animals and livestock that may encounter it. Some veterinarians choose to not treat Eimeria since it does not affect the dog; if this is the case for your pup, we suggest that you speak with their veterinarian about the best course of action to make sure that their fecal test is negative for all parasites. We cannot recommend or prescribe a treatment plan, but your pup’s veterinarian will be able to help you develop a plan for clearing their system of all parasites, harmful or not to the host, so that they can return to the Lodge.

Dogs will need to receive two negative fecal tests, one week apart, before they will be permitted to return. We apologize for any inconvenience this policy may cause.

Boarding Reminders and Other Policy Changes

As we quickly approach what is sure to be a busy season of holiday travel, we would like to share some policy reminders for all of our guests. We ask that you please make note of the following as you prepare for your pet’s next visit:

  1. No Dogs Allowed Off-Leash

We require that all dogs remain on-leash at all times when being dropped off and picked up. Your pup must be kept on their leash until a staff member has gently secured them with one of our slip lead leashes. For their safety and the safety of our other guests, your pup cannot enter, exit, or wait in our lobby off-leash.

  1. No Homeopathic Remedies No Homeopathic Flea and Tick Preventatives

Your pet’s health and safety are of the utmost importance to us, and for this reason, we only allow pets that are currently taking veterinarian-recommended and approved medications and preventatives for flea and tick control into our facility. Any pets that are found to be using homeopathic remedies rather than approved medications and preventatives will not be permitted to return until they have complied with the policy above.

  1. Raw Food Diets

We want to maintain a safe, sanitary environment for all of our guests and minimize their potential risk of exposure to any harmful bacteria. Since raw food can spoil quite quickly once it has been opened, we will no longer allow our guests to bring any raw food for their stays with us. If your pet normally eats a raw food diet, please consult with your vet on the best options for a freeze-dried alternative that can be safe for boarding. We will continue to accommodate freeze-dried meals for pets.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we strive to ensure a fun and safe stay for each of your pets.

Halloween Safety Tips

Are you and your pets preparing for a frightfully fun Halloween?   Whether your furry family members get into the spooky spirit by helping you choose the best candy, supervising (or critiquing) your pumpkin carving, showing off their cute and creative costumes, or doing tricks for extra treats, this ASPCA article recommends taking a few simple precautions to keep them safe while they celebrate and spare you any surprising scares through the 31st.

Meet Cali Donnarumma, Our New Groomer!

Is your pup or kitty’s coat in need of a refresh this fall? Cali Donnarumma, one of our talented groomers, is here to help your pet put their best paw forward! Originally from Maine, she moved to North Carolina over the summer with her three beloved cats (Soup, Beans, and Risotto!) and her handsome banana ball python, Barry. Though a recent addition to our Grooming Team, she brings 5 years of grooming experience and extensive knowledge to our grooming tables.

She is quite well-rounded in her skills and is able to groom cats as well as dogs, but she also specializes in clipping and hand-stripping the coats of terrier breeds. Her favorite part of being a groomer is that she gets to help her canine and feline clients look their very best and give them a fresh start so that they can be as happy, healthy, and comfortable as possible. We are thrilled that she has decided to share her passion for grooming with our Lodge family, and we look forward to seeing her continue to promote the beauty and happiness of your pets with her many talents!

Have a Happy Halloween!

We have gradually been making progress on our Chatham Park location in Pittsboro. While supply chain delays continue to affect our pace, we hope to be able to provide you all with an opening date soon. We appreciate your patience as we prepare our wonderful new facility for you and your pets, and we look forward to sharing more updates with you in the coming weeks.

We hope that you are enjoying the cooler temperatures, changing leaves, and fall festivities, and we are thrilled that many of your pets will be joining us for boarding, daycare, grooming, and training visits this month!

Have a very happy Halloween, and we hope to see you all soon!
